Nicki Runge
Nicki has many hats as Creator Content, Producer, Writer, Speaker, and Theatre Arts Director/Actress. She resides in Colorado with her hearing husband, Kris and her ‘CODA’ daughter, Ember. This blog considers being able to balance her schedule as a mother and business owner an essential skill for running and blogging.
Ember Runge
Ember is a CODA, which means "Child Of Deaf Adult." She is fluent in American Sign Language and English. Kris and Nicki called her Ember because she was born 4 months early, at just one pound, 1 ounce - an ember that would grow into a flame. They saw her will to survive, and knew she was here to accomplish big things. True to all that, today she is a thriving elementary student. At 3 years old, she suggested an idea to produce a short video of "Ember at..." with label words in sign language, which grew to share perspective between hearing and deaf relationship through review of travel destinations, books, storytelling, foods, music, movies, and more! She is also the biggest inspiration for her mom to create new blogs and videos.
F.A.Q.
Nicki started create the blog site in 2019. This was good and bad depending on how much you enjoyed getting hundreds of emails a day. The day she moved over to an actual website as a business in late 2020 was a day we will never forget. It felt like life changed overnight in a really big and awesome way!
We sure do! Sometimes we are gone for months at a time and sometimes we are away for a week or two at a time. No two months or years are alike!
Nicki is the primary writer here on, It’s a Just A Deaf Mother blog, vlogs, and short films itself is a business with everyone contributing. Although Nicki writes the majority of the articles that are photo-heavy, and primarily produces the vast majority of our video content.

We are in Colorado. Nicki is Deaf and fluent in American Sign Language. Ember is hearing and she is fluent in American Sign Language and speak English plus she is identity as Child of Deaf Adult (CODA).
