Starting My Journey as a Deaf Mother: First Blog Post

I am excited and nervous with mixed emotions about building this blog as my own. So, welcome to my blog! After reading several blogs by others, I realized it was time to take action and create my own.

My name is Nicki Runge. I am a Deaf mother to my beautiful daughter, Ember Elizabeth Runge. She is a “KODA” (Kid of Deaf Adult), meaning she is hearing. My husband, Kris Runge, is also hearing. You notice that English is not my first language; my first language is American Sign Language (ASL).

This blog is for anyone interested in next my journey with my daughter. I plan to cover a variety of topics, including:

  • Bucket Lists
  • Picky Eating (My daughter is almost 4 years old and quite picky with food)
  • Parenting a Hearing Child
  • Mother and Daughter Travel Adventures
  • Book Storytelling in ASL with Ember
  • Public Speaking: “Ember: A Deaf Woman’s IVF and NICU Journey”
  • TV Series: “A CODA Girl Named Ember”
  • Interior Design: DIY Projects, Party Planning, and Home Staging
  • Small Business Tips: How to build a small business with the knowledge I’ve gained
  • Theatre Arts: My work as Artistic Director for ImaginASL Performing Arts, including Drama Workshops, Directing, Acting, and Ember’s involvement in theatre

I’ll be sharing tips, information, and all the interesting things I discover along the way.

It’s time to get started because I am just a Deaf Mother.
