How Vocational Rehabilitation Services Helped Me Succeed Without Debt

Some deaf individuals are fortunate to graduate college with little to no debt, thanks to Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS). I am proud to be one of them. I graduated without debt, and I am incredibly thankful to the vocational rehabilitation services that supported me throughout my journey.

During my college years, I interned through the Disney College Program. I also participated in summer programs at Deaf West Theatre in 2000. I also participated in the National Theatre of the Deaf in 2001. I owe a lot to the University of Northern Colorado for motivating me to pursue these incredible opportunities.

But, after graduating in 2003 with a degree in Theater Arts with an Emphasis in Directing, I struggled. It was difficult to find a job. I graduated in 2003 with a degree in Theater Arts with an Emphasis in Directing. I struggled to find a job.

Today, I proudly serve as the Artistic Director for ImaginASL Performing Arts. This organization evolved from RMDT into a nonprofit organization in 2016. also to this role, I am a freelance director. I am also a teacher, actress, mentor, interior designer, full-time mother, and now, a new blogger. I love every minute of it!

I have no regrets about my journey, especially knowing that I accomplished it all without accruing any debt.

Your turn: Have you faced barriers after graduation? Do you consider vocational rehabilitation services “helpful”?
