About Luca:
A young boy experiences an unforgettable seaside summer on the Italian Riviera filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides.
Luca (voice of Jacob Tremblay) shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, Alberto (voice of Jack Dylan Grazer), but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface. “Luca” is directed by Academy Award® nominee Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) and produced by Andrea Warren (“Lava,” “Cars 3”).
My Review:
This was a very important movie for our family. It was the first time that movie “Luca” was not in a movie theatre but streaming on DisneyPlus! I felt terrible for those people who are not a membership of DisneyPlus so I let Ember invite her best friend, Aria over to watch that movie together since Ember is so into Disney movies so I was curious to see if they still would enjoy a movie at home.
Kris, my husband (Ember’s father) and I decided to buy pizza and make some popcorns for girls to eat and watch the movie so for an hour later (middle of movie) girls got so distracted and wanted to play around our house while Kris and I were watching the movie. So girls didn’t see the end of the movie…..
The older of us (Kris and me) enjoyed it a lot. I love when there are bits and pieces of older kid/adult humor added in to movies that also are enjoyable for little kids and LUCA did not disappoint! In the beginning of first hour movie the girls were all giggling together and had a great time. I wished that they both can finish the movie another one hour! In my thoughts….. if we had took the girls to movie theatre they will pay attention the movie whole through and I knew they both would LOVE that movie! But on positive side for me as deaf person I really enjoyed reading subtitles on the TV than going to movie theatre has to carry long box of subtitles and sometimes it would ran out of battery and had to go back and get another one which it was frustrating for me. There are pro and cons between watching. movie theatre and watching it at home.
The story line itself was sweet and entertaining and not too scary. There are scenes where the sea monster is in attack mode, if you will. But there is never any outright show of someone getting hurt. Without any prompting on my part the girls declare that the sea monsters was cute! It was fighting with. I went with that. I really love movie that celebrate the bond of best friends of Ember and Aria and LUCA showed this perfectly.
We all left talking about how ‘best friend’ is a friend forever and there is nothing that a friendship won’t do to protect each other. I think that about sums it up without ruining the story line. I would absolutely recommend the movie for age 2-12.
